For the first performance I thought that I put a lot of energy into the dancing, singing and acting. I was confident as I applied all of the technique that I had learnt and put in all the energy I had to give. I was extremely confident with my characterisation by this point and decided to use only the best reactions that I had come up with in previous shows, as well as some more imaginitive reactions. In order to improve on my singing and dancing even further, I practised in front of a mirror in my free time. I also made sure that I practised my chorus reactions in the mirror to see how I appeared onstage.
The last ever performance, I felt, was one of my best in regards to the dancing, but not so much for the singing and the acting. I was unable to sing as loudly as I have in the other shows, as my throat became soar. I could have done some extra vocal exercises previously in order to prevent this. I feel that my movements could have been sharper when reacting and I could have made greater use of 'The Tonic Body'. However, everyone gave their all and made this show a fantastic ending to a wonderful show.

Here is a photo of my friends from college and I in our Act One Costumes for Panto.

ReplyDeleteWhole show feedback – Did you the story and is the narrative clear? I think overall for the show you conducted a very good set of performances. You only missed one cue (for Let me entertain you) and all you could have done was make your characterization slightly broader. Your timing was always correct in the dances and your movement was strong, bold and large and the dances flowed so well for you because of the entire practice and effort you put in. Also, your attitude throughout the whole process was positive and determined and this was all really shown when we came to the show week. Furthermore, you always took on the advice Ella gave you and took it into consideration so as the shows went on, your facial expressions and movement just got bigger and better. In all the shows I never seen any visible mistakes from you and you were always organised with your props so you didn't make any mistakes whilst taking them on stage. Your set of shows were all very good and there was only slight improvements of facial expressions I can point out.
Individual feedback – Use this section to comment on individual performers and give them feedback on if they can be heard, is their character clear, are they helping develop the storyline, are they focused, smiling etc?
I think you remained focused on stage during the dress run because you did not talk in the wings whilst I was sitting with you and in most of the rehearsal process also, I could see whilst on stage you remained fully engaged in your role because you made sure your facial expressions remained where appropriate and you did not lose your enthusiasm in any scenes and were smiling throughout all the dances. Furthermore, you performed warm ups back stage with me. We conducted breathing and massaged our faces to ensure we could perform to our best standard of singing as loud as we could and being able to move our faces fully for the facial expressions we needed to perform. Moreover, you appeared to smile throughout most of the shows and had huge facial expressions so you appeared extremely noticeable on stage and really stood out from other chorus members, you never lost your enthusiasm and huge facial expressions. Also, I think you were extremely determined and had a great attitude in the rehearsal process because you were constantly practising the dances and your facial expressions with me during our breaks and you wanted to repeat all of the dances until you felt they were to the best standard they could be. I think your character was very clear, particularly in the ball room scenes because you developed your character to a waitress and carried the tray around the ball room and served villagers drinks. You remained a smiley and helpful face (as a waitress would) and this appeared really recognisable to the audience because you remained this throughout the whole scene and were really friendly to all the villagers whilst serving them this showed great characterisation.
Actions to improve: What suggestions can you make to help support the performance piece/individual performances?
ReplyDeleteI think to improve you could have made more of your facial expressions in other scenes as well as the ball room scene for example, when the Baroness came on stage you could have looked more disgusted rather than so shocked throughout the scene. If you would have done this it would have shown a wider variety of characterisation and it would have fitted the actions happening on stage more. Although you would be shocked, you would have been disgusted as the scene progressed with the baroness’s dialogue. Additionally, I think for the dress run you could have been a lot more confident because backstage you seemed like you were questioning your ability a lot wondering if you knew the dances fully and if your facial expressions were big enough but, when it came to it you ended up doing everything as you had planned. Further, I think together we could have remained doing warm ups before each show backstage because we only really done the warm ups before the dress run and the first couple of shows, this may of made all our performances as good as we could make them, some things may have still gone wrong but the warm ups would have fully prepared our vocal chords and facial muscles. As well, when you were a waitress in the ball scene, it was great characterisation for a typical waitress but, you could have developed her even further and made her even more noticeable for example, she could have been dopey and dropped drinks on the floor or tripped over. Or, she could have spoken to the villagers with a really rude tone of voice instead like the was bored of her job.
